My Little [Kick-Ass] Pony

Hasbro is bringin' back the MLP Power to Comic Con with yet another exclusive pony. Yay!!!

This year's Little Pony is decked out in ninja black with a hot pink mask, tail and mane. Fancy. And take note of the "HIYA" on her leg -- yeaaah, take that Witches from the Volcano of Doom! This pony is here to take on all the baddies that try to invade Dream Valley with her lightning quick ninja skills.

Okay, the ultimate pop culture mash up fest is still a little over a month away, but Kid Robot recently released what exclusive goodies they'll have in store including a schedule of artists signings. Behold . . .

July 24 & 25:

What could these two have possibly come up with??? Perhaps a Dunny or a Labbit from Kozik? After last year's awesome Super Teeter (which I almost bought, but didn't and now regret deeply), JLed is bound to bring in the goods. I'll definitely be in line for that! Get to the Kid Robot booth from 11-2 pm for a signing Thursday and Friday by both Kozik and Ledbetter.

July 26:

Paul Pope's Masked Karimbah is taken straight from the pages of his THB comic and into vinyl form. The Masked Karimbah is a two-figure action piece and is also Pope's very first Kid Robot toy -- it'll include a 16 page comic and secret vinyl throw in. This is limited to 300 pieces and are $150 a pop. Pope will be there from 1-4 pm for a special signing. Woo!

July 27:

Tokidoki, an Okee Dorkee fave (if you haven't noticed), is coming out with a 8" pizza lovin'-fang grinnin'- Dunny! From previous Con experience, you better get to the booth early if you want to get your hands on this (or just want Simone to sign some other Tokidoki knick knack). Since his Lesportsac stint, the Tokidoki line has gotten overly popular and spawned many a fan. Last year, the Tokidoki booth was packed, let alone his other signings -- Simone's just driving everyone crazy with his kawaii creations! The KR signing is from 11 am -2 pm -- be there at 8 am.

Start stuffing your piggy banks, folks.

Murse1 and I attended the Hostess with the Mostess' Hip Hostess Series in San Diego, which was the first of her 12 month tour. The hip hostess Jennifer Sbranti, along with Chambord Raspberry Liqueur, will be traveling to 7 cities in the U.S. to share cool party and entertaining ideas. This ain't no stuffy workshop. While picking up pointers to create chic, yet affordable decor and fantastic recipes that incorporate the fabulous drink of choice, Chambord, you'll also be showered with yummy food and yummier cocktails! I'm telling you, this will be the best Happy Hour you'll ever attend. And the best part, The Hip Hostess Series is FREE! Okay, okay, no really, the best part is meeting Miz Sweetie-pie herself, Jenn, and learning tons of helpful tips! The theme for the San Diego event was "Tropical Zen." The venue, The Prado, was decorated with gorgeous arrangements with vibrant oranges, deep reds and zesty greens that intertwined both Hawaiian and Asian motifs. Why does it work so well together? Because both share similar decor aspects --- bright and bold colors and bamboo and green foliage. Told'ya she's good.

Jenn explained that decor and entertaining should be simple. Let's stay away from the cookie-cutter, party-in-a-box sets at your local party stores. What are we, 5 years old? No, we're grown and sexy now ;) Let's act and decorate accordingly.

One of the tabletops she displayed was inspired by a plant she saw in Hawaii. The plant was her muse. Find your muse and use it to inspire your color palette. And just because you're throwing a party, doesn't mean you gotta cook (thank da lord!) --- go to your fave eatery, take some dishes to go, and throw it on a swanky platter and wha-la! Mighty fine (and worry-free) dining! And be daring --- try using other food containers like take-out boxes to hold individual portion dishes. Isn't she the greatest?

A must for every party these days --- Signature drinks! Like I said, fine ladies and handsome gents, byob is so last season. I hate going to parties with a byob rule and all you see is the cheap stuff with no complimentary mixers. Don't get me wrong, I'm an on-the-rocks kinda chica as well, but really, hosting parties are meant to be a fun, catching-up soirre, not hold someones hair all night next to the porcelain god. Ok, rant over. Continuing on....yes, Signature drinks!

Who knew Chambord could be so useful?!? At the event, there were 3 signature drinks that included Chambord in the recipe --- French Martini, Chambord Margarita and Chambord and Champagne. The 3 drinks were perfect because the 3 recipes covered all types of drinkers --- stiff to light. And for those who didn't really want to drink it up but wanted to try out Chambord, they served Chambord sorbet which just had a hint of it. Another fun idea --- make pouring drinks fun by giving your guests options. They'll have fun pouring their own concoctions. Set up a table and frame the recipes of the signature drinks around the various ingredients. And don't forget the garnishes --- raspberries and blackberries make your champagne flute look more fun! Really, who isn't wearing a 'i heart jenn' tee yet?

And the magic word of the day, Details! The details is what gets everyone talking! Follow through with your theme in all aspects of your decor. Jenn displayed a dining table that incorporated banana leaves (real and fake! yes, fake is ok. it's genius!) on and around each dish setting. And the magical detail --- she took a shred of a banana leaf and tied it around the napkin setting! Also seen around several of the displays were little bamboo toothpicks that are perfect for hors'douvers or fruit garnishes for your drink. Tiny embellishments like those make the entire 'look' so put-together. Ok, isn't Jenn our new BFF?!

Everyone loves giveaways! Each attendee received a coconut favor filled with goodies --- a tiny Chambord, Chambord shot glass, bamboo toothpicks, a party tip guide, and my favorite, an OPI nail polish --- color called French Chambord-tini --- how perfect is that name?!?

We had a great time. So great that I have been having Chambord and Champagne since the event and I totally want to go to all the cities! Jenn, I so can fit in your carry-on. Ok, check-in luggage. ;)

Yes, even Murse1 had a great time. He even suggested that "Tropical Zen" should be our next party theme. Like whoa, he's interested in decor and being an ultra hostess too?!? "So Good For Little Bunnies" Brandi Milne weekend gallery!

The always awesometastic Gallery 1988 LA will be having a special weekend engagement opening tonight, Friday the 13th (GASP!), featuring LA artist Brandi Milne's upcoming book "So Good For Little Bunnies!"


G1988 says:

In addition to viewing and buying the actual artwork, you can also pre-order the "So Good For Little Bunnies" book exclusively at Gallery 1988, and get an original drawing inspired by the book directly from the artist! The book is only $20 and you'll be the first to have it!

Say Hello to Piximix

Today at 7 p.m. is the opening of Double Punch's new gallery show "Say Hello to Piximix." Join the festivities early to grab some food, drinks and a limited edition poster.

Wall-E

The one thing I regret about last year's Comic Con was not attending the press panel for the new Pixar/Disney flick Wall-E, written and directed by Andrew Stanton -- the mastermind behind Finding Nemo. 

Wall-E doesn't hit theaters until the 27th, but I've been anticipating it's release since I saw teasers for it a little after Con. I mean, hello. It's about a cute little curious robot that's destined to save the world (or something like that). 



Oh yes, and with these kind of movies you know there's going to be TOYS!!! I've already looked into it. Y'know, for my own interest and your's, dear reader. O_o

Reading, Learning, and Destroying

When I was a junior in high school my first period class I was actually a T.A for Mr. Vargas; a Spanish teacher that I previously had my freshman year. I chose him because I knew his aides had it chill. I'd pick up his mail every morning from the office then sit infront of one of the computers in the room either doing homework that I didn't finish, study, eat, sleep, or surf the net. I suppose I occasionally graded papers and tests, but he'd usually ask me if I wasn't too busy doing anything else.

One of the sites that I came across when I wasn't giving kids F's for not conjugating verbs correctly was EVILMONITO. I don't remember exactly what attracted me to this online magazine (one of the few of its kind at the time), but I just remember scouring through the pages and being amazed by its contents. Perhaps it was the theme of deconstructing pop culture. I have to give credit to Mr. Kim and EM for introducing me to things that I am in fact still into today. The magazine content on the site itself has been on hiatus since 2005 and things have definitely grown since then. As an avid fan of this site, I invite you to take a look at the new things brewing at EVILMONITO. Be prepared to read, learn, and destroy.

Quasi Super Vomit of a Post

Yes, I know it has been quite some time since my last post. The time in between then and now I was probably living in the library study room with 8 or so other guys going over things such as cost-benefit analysis, 1/2mv², amount of distance a spring may compress as a 50 lb head smashes against it, and maybe even how to use a new TI-89 Titanium Graphing Calculator...



Other than my cell phone and baby wipes, I use this thing practically everyday. The simultaneous equation solver (a basic matrix), and polynomial root finder (quadratic equation solver) make finding variables much, much easier. Not to mention the Notefolio program helps when your 3"x5" card just isn't enough. Nahmean?

With Claudio's (Coheed and Cambria) new comic Kill Audio, Evil Ink Comics in conjunction with VinylCut will release a 7" figure of a super stabbed Claudio. A bloody variant will also be released. On top of that, a SECRET LIMITED variant will be released at none other than... you know... the San Diego Comic-Con.



Have YOU seen the second episode of Macross Frontier? I still haven't seen it, but I thought the first episode was good enough to make me feel that I should continue the series.



I thought the reworked version of Do You Remember Love? was a nice touch. NOSTALGIA, son...







By the way, I'm looking for this shirt. Apparently they only sold them in Akihabara in Japan during some huge anime festival or whatever. Not sure where else to get them or who I can proxy them from. Some one, please help me out. I think I may be a size LARGE in these tees.

Snap, Crackle and Pop meets Rap, Hood and Hip-Hop!

Keeping with my previous post about cereal, comes another breakfast mashup, where this time cereal meets street. Kellogg's, the company behind character-driven breakfast cereal mainstays, joins street clothing company Under The Hood for a new collaborated line they're hoping will leave fans of both scenes clamoring, "They're Grrrreat!"



Kellogg's famous characters are all here, from Frosted Flake's Tony the Tiger, the jolly Rice Krispies trio Snap, Crackle and Pop, Honey Smacks' Dig'Em the Frog, Corn Flakes' Cornelius Rooster, and finally Toucan Sam of Froot Loops fame. All your favorite cereal mascots jump out of the box and land emblazoned in outlined patterns over shirts, jeans, hoodies, and track jackets. The brands definitely acknowledge that the strange combination of the two flavors is definitely a taste that'll split the masses between those that "Dig'Em" while others will feel soggy. In full compliance with that thought, check out the models' faces:

On the other hand we've seen every cartoon character from Fat Albert to Bugs Bunny on clothing, but Kellogg's/Under The Hood's line seems much more out there and therefore giving it a much bigger "WTF/Awesome" factor to the mix!

So whether you think its the most absurd thing that has happened to the urban clothing waves or perhaps the most genius, one thing is for sure:

Nothing spells out BOLD better than rocking out an outfit that says, "Follow Your Nose" while pointing to Toucan Sam's rainbow snout splattered over your ass cheeks!!
