Luke Feldman: ONE Night Only @ Rotofugi & then some

Our boy Luke Feldman is going to be having a one night only gig in Chicago at Rotofugi on Wed. Dec. 10. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by and watch Luke do his thing. I've witnessed it briefly at Wondercon and it's pretty friggin' amazing (see)!

Can't make it? Me too, but no worries. Luke's got other things up his sleeves to keep the rest of us entertained. 

Recently he's created a piece based on Maurice Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are." This is available at Culver City's Wonderful World of Animation Art Gallery for $400 -- clearly, for those who are collectors with beaucoup bucks to spare.

Unleash the "Twilighters"

Not since Harry Potter has there been a frantic frenzy over a film adaptation of a book series. Though Twilight is getting hailed as the new Potter and it's author, Stehpenie Meyer, the new J.K. Rowling, one can't compare either: it's peaches and plums, really.

To amp up the film's Nov. 21 release, the cast is going on a tour across the Hot Topic shops of America starting tomorrow, Nov. 10 at San Francisco's Stonestown Galleria -- which is conveniently RIGHT NEXT TO MY SCHOOL. O_o

But first things first. In order to get into the signings, rules apply:

* For either "Edward" (Robert Pattinson) or "Bella" (Kristen Stewart) signings, you must be one of the first 500 to purchase the $30 Twilight Tour tee in person the day of the signing to get in.

* For the "Jacob" (Taylor Lautner), "Laurent" (Edi Gathegi), and "Victoria" (Rachelle Lefevre) signings, you must be one of the first 750 to purchase the Twilight Tour tee in person the day of the signing to get in.

$30?! Just to meet Robert Pattinson??? Okay, looks like I'm not going. =P

Yes We Did!

To commemorate the historic event that took place this Tuesday, Nov. 5, MoveOn is distributing free stickers celebrating Barack Obama's groundbreaking victory featuring the art of Shepard Fairey -- who designed the Obama  "Hope" posters.

For a $3+ donation, you can get 5 stickers OR for a $20+ donation, you can get 50 stickers.

There are also 5,000 posters of the "Yes We Did -- Victory!" available starting Saturday, Nov. 8 at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Each print is hand numbered and the first 1,000 are signed by Fairey himself. Those who donate $500 or more will receive a signed print while supplies last. $80+ donations will receive an unsigned poster.

APE runs amuck in the city

The Alternative Press Expo (APE), the little indie sibling of Wondercon and Comic Con, makes it's way back to San Francisco's Concourse this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 1-2.

APE is one of the largest gatherings of alternative and indie comics in the country, with exhibitors ranging from self-published writers/artists of smaller comics to larger, upscale publishers like SLG Publishing, Top Shelf, Drawn and Quarterly, and more.

The selection of comics, graphic novels, art work, 'zines, and other knick-knacks is endless. Watch your wallets, attendees.

Membership is available on-site only. One day membership is $10 (good for either day) and two day membership is $15. For those who present their Comic Con badges from this year get in for free -- see, that $70 (or $300+ you shelled out on eBay) you spent paid off. Huzzah! Comic retailers with legit business cards also get free membership.

Panelists IV show @ Giant Robot in SF

Starting Nov. 1, GRSF presents its latest group showing in the fourth installment of the Panelists show. This time 'round comic artists from across the country (of the indie and art gallery caliber) will show off original illustrations, paintings, and mixed media work. There'll also be some special surprises from a few contributers -- amongst them are Eisner and Ignatz Award nominees and winners.

Things are looking ugly at Double Punch

Quirky Kaiju, bossy bears, cake eating spiders, and dolls so ugly they're charming have taken over Double Punch's gallery space in "Things." The show is a collection of, er, things that Uglydoll creators Sun Min Kim and David Horvath have created over the past 7 years since launching Uglydolls. Other works in "Things" include Bossy Bear, LittleBony, Choco & Minty, etc. 

Many of the items on display are extremely rare and long sold out. Have you seen the LittleBony DVD or CD at your local Best Buy? Nope? Uh-huh. I thought not.

The show ends Nov. 2. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for kids (under 14), plus you get a little gift too (refund if you purchase something). 

And sold exclusively at DP (and their webstore) for "Things" is the Lonely Otaku print for $50. This print is a limited run of 50.

Booze n' Bots

The little watering hole in the bay called City Beer was poppin' on Monday night, even though they're never open for business on that manic day. Gama-Go held it's Octoberfest shindig there to celebrate the release of their latest edition to the Deathbot family: Deathbot Lederhosen.

The man of the hour.

It says, "6:00 pm Private Party Gama-Go." 

I'll go ahead and apologize for my lack of pictures from the event and what poor blurry quality the ones I did take possess. But they do fit in with the drunken state of mind I later endured during the party. =)

City Beer's 49 persons occupancy space was well exceeded as Gama fans and staff drank copious amounts of free beer (until it ran out) and chatted about all things Deathbot and all things not . . . Deathbot.

I don't recall what kind of beer was served since it was too loud to hear anything. But it was tasty. Trust me. This is coming from a girl who likes fruity cocktails.

Attendees were also able to purchase the beer stein clad bot for a sweet $20 -- not $40, like I said in the last blog. Want one? No worries! Prost with this guy for $22 at Gama-Go's site or NingYoushi. If you're in the bay, you can stop by NingYoushi's retail store Double Punch. 

City Beer is also a place worth visiting even if they don't have Deathbots all the time. Its neither a dive or fancy bar: its a specialty beer store where customers can sample beers and mix and match their own 6 packs consisting of domestic or international selections. They've got over 300 types of beers. Yes, 300. For more on City Beer, check out their spot on the interweb.

It was a good night of chatter and drinking. And wobbling. And getting headachey. Cheers to you all.

Bust out the Lederhosen and get your drank on!

Join Gama-Go and Ningyoushi on Monday, Oct. 13 in an Octoberfest-like celebration in honor of the release of the wooden Deathbot Lederhosen at CityBeer in San Francisco.

Enjoy some delicious German beer all on Gama-Go's tab from 6-8 p.m. That's right, folks. FREE beer! And with that mentioned, apologies go out to those under the age of 21 -- this is a big kids par-tay. 

There'll also be a limited supply of the Deathbot Lederhosen for $40 on hand. If you can't make it to the beer fest to pick up the murderous Barvarian bot, no worries. He shall be up for grabs for everyone the following day on the Gama-Go site.

I Can Has Bookz?!

Maybe you've seen them all up in yur computerz, messin' up yur vernacularz and overall grammar skillz. Or maybe you haven't. 

Allow me to enlighten you in case you're wondering WTF?

The fine folks at I Can Has Cheezburger, the ever so popular blog of kitties (or in LOLspeak, "kittehs") with ridiculous captions, have compiled 200 of their best pics into a book I Can Has Cheezburger?: A LOLcat Colleckshun. This hits all fine book retailers on Oct. 8, but you can pre-order it on Amazon for just $6. Yes, you can has books for cheapz! n_n

They do exist!

Joe Ledbetter's Unicornasaurus made it's debut at the Kid Robot booth during Con a few weeks back proving to everyone that the mythical Unicornasaurus does, in fact, exist. 

Only 350 of the black and pink colorway, dubbed "lava," were made and sold as a SDCC exclusive. Want one? Good luck! On eBay they're going for (at most) $289.99!!! O_o

 But TODAY is the release of the grey and yellow Unicornasaurus. Catch one (or both) for $39.95 (+tax) at all Kid Robot stores before they disappear and go on eBay for a ridonculous price!

It's Pushing *Daisies* -- not people!

The Pushing Daisies panel was the one thing I was hella excited about for this year's Con. The quirky 12-time Emmy nominated show about a pie maker with the gift to bring dead things back to life (and back to dead) made its debut at last year's convention, which I missed because no one wanted to go with me .... ::sigh::. I figured this year would be my chance, even if I had to go by myself -- which I did! Their panel had the whole cast, Lee Pace, Anna Friel, Chi McBride, Ellen Greene, Kristin Chenoweth, Swoosie Kurtz, and executive producers Dan Jinks and Peter Ocko, and moderated by special guest and executive producer Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black, people!). Special clips from the upcoming season were shown along with highlights from season 1.

But when I went to line up for room 6A (which isn't even all that big a room), I found myself going down the hall, into another hall, out the door, and down the stairs -- that description doesn't even justify how long the line was! I thought to myself, "There's no way I'm getting in. I'll just go to the signing at the WB booth."

Three hours of circling and unorganized chaos later . . . I didn't even get in line! People were pushing and shoving like crazy, so I suppose some fans were just living up to the name of the show.

Good news for you guys though (and me too in a sense) is that I managed to at least get some pictures of the show's star, Lee Pace, who is up an Emmy for Best Actor. n_n

Pushing Daisies comes out on DVD and Blu-ray Sept. 16, and the second season begins Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. on ABC. To catch full episodes, check out ABC's website.

The Big Bang Theory

The creators, Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, and cast, Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Simon Helberg, and Kunal Nayyar, of the CBS hit "The Big Bang Theory" dorked it out in Room 6CDEF during Friday's Con. To make things uber dorktastic, Adam Savage, of MythBusters fame, was there to moderate the event!

Season 2 is still in the skeletal phases of being planned out, but nonetheless the show is coming back this fall. Huzzah! A special reel put together just for Comic Con was shown before the panel -- it was basically a highlight of the most nerdiest moments in the show. O_o Savage also introduced the audience to a fully animated music video to aid the show's theme song performed by the Barenaked Ladies.

Sorry, no clip of that. We weren't allowed to record any of those snippets and I wasn't about to risk having my camera smashed to bits!

My Little [Kick-Ass] Pony

Hasbro is bringin' back the MLP Power to Comic Con with yet another exclusive pony. Yay!!!

This year's Little Pony is decked out in ninja black with a hot pink mask, tail and mane. Fancy. And take note of the "HIYA" on her leg -- yeaaah, take that Witches from the Volcano of Doom! This pony is here to take on all the baddies that try to invade Dream Valley with her lightning quick ninja skills.

It's Comic Con time, yo

Okay, the ultimate pop culture mash up fest is still a little over a month away, but Kid Robot recently released what exclusive goodies they'll have in store including a schedule of artists signings. Behold . . .

July 24 & 25:

What could these two have possibly come up with??? Perhaps a Dunny or a Labbit from Kozik? After last year's awesome Super Teeter (which I almost bought, but didn't and now regret deeply), JLed is bound to bring in the goods. I'll definitely be in line for that! Get to the Kid Robot booth from 11-2 pm for a signing Thursday and Friday by both Kozik and Ledbetter.

July 26:

Paul Pope's Masked Karimbah is taken straight from the pages of his THB comic and into vinyl form. The Masked Karimbah is a two-figure action piece and is also Pope's very first Kid Robot toy -- it'll include a 16 page comic and secret vinyl throw in. This is limited to 300 pieces and are $150 a pop. Pope will be there from 1-4 pm for a special signing. Woo!

July 27:

Tokidoki, an Okee Dorkee fave (if you haven't noticed), is coming out with a 8" pizza lovin'-fang grinnin'- Dunny! From previous Con experience, you better get to the booth early if you want to get your hands on this (or just want Simone to sign some other Tokidoki knick knack). Since his Lesportsac stint, the Tokidoki line has gotten overly popular and spawned many a fan. Last year, the Tokidoki booth was packed, let alone his other signings -- Simone's just driving everyone crazy with his kawaii creations! The KR signing is from 11 am -2 pm -- be there at 8 am.

Start stuffing your piggy banks, folks.

Say Hello to Piximix

Today at 7 p.m. is the opening of Double Punch's new gallery show "Say Hello to Piximix." Join the festivities early to grab some food, drinks and a limited edition poster.

"Say Hello to Piximix" will include fine art prints, t-shirts, handmade plushies, and books. There'll also be a signing with the whole Piximix gang: Kyle Hoyt, Catherine Maske, Garth Webb, and Rhandee Leano.

If you can't make it to tonight's gallery opening, the show will be running throughout the whole month of June.

Wall-E

The one thing I regret about last year's Comic Con was not attending the press panel for the new Pixar/Disney flick Wall-E, written and directed by Andrew Stanton -- the mastermind behind Finding Nemo. 

Wall-E doesn't hit theaters until the 27th, but I've been anticipating it's release since I saw teasers for it a little after Con. I mean, hello. It's about a cute little curious robot that's destined to save the world (or something like that). 



Oh yes, and with these kind of movies you know there's going to be TOYS!!! I've already looked into it. Y'know, for my own interest and your's, dear reader. O_o

Clingy Chicks

Luke Feldman (remember, our homeskillet from Comic Con and WonderCon?) kindly let us know that he debuted a few prototypes of his life-size vinyl adhesive ladies and fairies at his "sell-out" Melbourne show at Paper Shadow Gallery last month.

Skeletrino & Skeletrina

Almost a year ago Simone Legno, of Tokidoki fan girl dimonium, let us here at Okee Dorkee know that a vinyl toy of Adios and Ciao Ciao's kitty Skeletrino was in the process of getting made -- remember that post? 

The time has come . . er, almost. Strangeco just posted photos of the hell kitten and his fancified feline companion Skeletrina. 

Check out the golden details on her. Kitty's got some mad style!

No word on when these will be released. Hopefully by the time Comic Con rolls around >^_^<
