Cameron Tiede's Cali Weekend

Whether you're reppin norCal or the SoCal, Cameron Tiede will be your super cool, friendly neighbor this weekend. Unlike your other friendly neighbors, there will be no trolley or cardigan in this episode. Instead he's got a sick subway and stylish melvin.

This Friday in Santa Cruz, he (and other artists too) will be showcasing his custom All City Style Blank NYC Subway Car for Cardboard Spaceship's show, Derailed. They got a great lineup of artists. The opening reception will be this friday and the show will run until may 31.

In fabulous Pasadena, Cameron will be giving you a Melvin at the VTN show this Sunday who also has a great lineup of artists. More info on Melvin coming this week on Cameron's blog.

REMINDER: VTN's The Urban Underground Project

Another "side 'Con" happening in conjunction with Comic-Con is Vinyl Toy Network's The Urban Underground Project happening Friday July 27 and Saturday the 28th from 2pm - 8pm at Jerome's Building aka the Factory on 1466 F St. featuring plenty of vinyl toy goodness. Admission is free and there will be even be a free shuttle service to the event on Harbor Drive in front of the Hyatt for those Comic-Con'ers with PVC in their blood.

As with VTN's past events there will be plenty of Artists appearances (including Andrew Bell, Brian Castleforte, Luke Feldman, Christopher Lee, Buffmonster, and much more!) well as Exclusive Toys from the show!

Buff Monster art toys premiere at Buff Fest!

On Sunday July 22, Munky King and Barracuda will be hosting a pre-release party for MINDstyle's Buffmonster art toys in an event appropriately called BUFF FEST! The party (or so-called foreplay!) will start at Munky King 12 noon to 3pm then continue with a 'happy ending' at Barracuda from 4pm to 7pm.

Fans of pink booby-shaped creatures (and who isn't?) are encouraged to check out the one day event filled with free hot dogs, drinks, balloons, stickers, and free MINDstyle x BARRACUDA t-shirts for the first 50 people! There will be chances to win one of the five hand-painted Buff Monster toys too!


In addition to the 8 awesome new Buffmonster toys, Munky King will also have a low run exclusive silkscreen print available for the show but I won't post it here as this silkscreen print may be considered not safe for work. Check it out here (NSFW).

Luke Feldman joins the Madness & heads to SD!

Our pal, Luke Feldman got in touch with us to let us know that he too will be heading to the San Diego Comic Con this year. Remember his work from the Pop Cling Show?

He will be presenting an animation short entitled, "Who Saved the Moon" on Thursday July 26 in room 26AB. A preview of Who Saved the Moon can be views on his site.

Here's a snapshot from it...don't worry folks, it looks like this story has a happy ending.

Luke will also be at Urban Underground Vinyl Toy Network Show in San Diego, July 27th and 28th where he will be debuting a vinyl prototype of Mai, one of his gorgeous gals.

VTN: Coming to San Diego

Whew...ANOTHER event to write down on your calendar...

This year, San Diego will be even more crazier during July 26 - 29!

Not only do we have our Annual Comic Con -- so funny that newbies are so proper and call it "CCI." helloooo..its "the CON" ;)

but this year we will be welcoming the Vinyl Toy Network to our beautiful city!

We were was able to attend their Spring Show in Pasadena. The small and intimate show worked out great and allowed plenty of time and opportunities to meet different artists and vendors and even was a great place to shop.

Some artists, you may remember us featuring, who will be at the show are: Luke Feldman, Christopher Lee, Brian Castleforte. List of other artists that will be attending can be seen here.

What's great about this show is that it is FREE to attend and has a FREE shuttle service to the show on Harbor Drive, in front of the Hyatt, which is a hop, skip and a jump from the San Diego Convention Center which is hosting the Comic Con at the same time!

$#!T I got at the Vinyl Toy Network Show

Just wanted to show you a couple of fresh finds I got when Juligie, Janus Saint, and I went to the Vinyl Toy Network Spring 2007 Show in Pasadena, CA two weekends back. I would have posted this earlier if I had a digital camera and didn’t live in the dark ages, but lucky for you I finally decided to step out of my dark cave and purchase a D200 which arrived this past Wednesday.

The first booth I went to was Super7 (aka Super7 International Toy Pirates). Super7 resides in San Francisco, my former city of employment. Super7 had lots of different Japanese vinyl toys and t-shirts. The one thing that caught my eye and that I had to have was a t-shirt of one of the greatest animes of all time, Akira. It’s Kaneda in his classic pose braking sideways with his motorcycle. Nothing fancy, just a simple red and orange silhouette of the bad ass.

The second thing I got was a pair of Nike Air Max 1 Skull Pack Edition from Tradition. Tradition is based out in Westlake, CA and sells various vinyl toys and kicks for you urban junkies. I got the shoes for 45 dollars (show special) so that was a no brainer...I had to cop’em, nah mean!?!?

All in all it was a pretty dope show. Lots of toys--even though I didn’t even buy any HA!--and lots of other things like art and clothing. For more on the show, check out Janus Saint's review.

the Vinyl Toy Network Spring 2007 show coverage

This past Sunday Juligie, MURSE1, and I checked out the Vinyl Toy Network Spring 2007 show at the Pasadena Convention Center. It was 3000 square feet of great artists and vendors exhibiting some of the latest and greatest toys.


Chris Lee's new figure from The Urbanites - Mellow complete with jello! There's always room for jello!


Some great figures from the imagination of Dave Pressler.

I love the detail and creative styles - I could relate a lot to these little guys!


Brian Castleforte displayed some of his wonderfully stylized NiceBunny paper toys. They're free to download and make at NiceBunny.com.

Also check out his monstrously cool But We Love You 'plush toys from outer space.' The ice cold Gozz is my favorite!


Shane Geil wasn't pulling any humorous subtlety punches with the VTN show premiere of his 11 inch sperm plush!

He also featured some his yummy looking rotisserie chicken plush in the same containers that you get real ones in!


Michelle Valigura's Pistol Pedro plush - probably the last 2 of 13 ever made exclusively for the show!

Amanda Visell, Michelle's partner in crime in the girls productions offered another exclusive to the show. Amanda created The Dragon Scout Set which was limited to 25 pieces and consists of a wood sculpture and print. Mr. Dragon, I think you're supposed to just eat the cookies, not the girls!

The good guys at Munky King were happy to pose with Michelle's works: a Switcheroo Robot Girl and the Pistol Pedro plush!


We picked up a couple of vinyl toys including three figures that were given away to the first 100 people (then to us by a very generous collector!): a Kaching Brands Mokoten Harajuku girl, Toy2R Qee collection series 1 Chopper Bear, and Gimix Vice Do's and Dont's Becky! We also snatched up a ToyFul Hello Kitty x Rody vinyl bobble, Kozik Mongers Herman, Touma KnuckleBear, Nanospore series 1 Gunther (this one was a rare variant!), and some Red Magic CiBoys!

I'm really partial to Red Magic's CiBoys. Their designs are usually modelled as parodies of pop culture icons or characters. For instance, their Star Wash series mocks Star Wars. I picked up these four CiBoys figures: From the Sh*t Fighter series (street fighter 2) I got E. Honderi and Miguile. From the Booze Lee (Bruce Lee) assortment I got Mr Black complete with little silver 'chucks, and from the new The Good Guy series (counter terrorism and law enforcement) I got a Deri The Bill. I really love these new sets and I won't rest 'til I get these:
