Things are looking ugly at Double Punch

Things @ Double Punch

Quirky Kaiju, bossy bears, cake eating spiders, and dolls so ugly they're charming have taken over Double Punch's gallery space in "Things." The show is a collection of, er, things that Uglydoll creators Sun Min Kim and David Horvath have created over the past 7 years since launching Uglydolls. Other works in "Things" include Bossy Bear, LittleBony, Choco & Minty, etc.

Many of the items on display are extremely rare and long sold out. Have you seen the LittleBony DVD or CD at your local Best Buy? Nope? Uh-huh. I thought not.

The show ends Nov. 2. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for kids (under 14), plus you get a little gift too (refund if you purchase something).

And sold exclusively at DP (and their webstore) for "Things" is the Lonely Otaku print for $50. This print is a limited run of 50.

Things @ Double Punch
Uglydoll's actually got a really sweet love story. Read about it here.

Things @ Double Punch

Things @ Double Punch

Uglydoll vinyl toys, circa 2004. These were manufactured by the now defunct toy company Critterbox.

Things @ Double Punch
The aforementioned LittleBony DVD and CD. Little Bony is actually a kids show that aired in Japan.

Things @ Double Punch

Things @ Double Punch
The merchandise table included a ton of Uglydoll plushes in mini and big forms, keychains, blind-boxed LittleBonys, Ugly Guide series, and Uglydoll notebooks.

Moxy
I picked up a mini Moxy. She's magenta. I had to. And she matched my outfit that day too.

Anywho, to see more things be sure to go --> here

Till next time, keep it dorky, folks.

It's Comic Con time, yo

Okay, the ultimate pop culture mash up fest is still a little over a month away, but Kid Robot recently released what exclusive goodies they'll have in store including a schedule of artists signings. Behold . . .

July 24 & 25:

What could these two have possibly come up with??? Perhaps a Dunny or a Labbit from Kozik? After last year's awesome Super Teeter (which I almost bought, but didn't and now regret deeply), JLed is bound to bring in the goods. I'll definitely be in line for that! Get to the Kid Robot booth from 11-2 pm for a signing Thursday and Friday by both Kozik and Ledbetter.

July 26:

Paul Pope's Masked Karimbah is taken straight from the pages of his THB comic and into vinyl form. The Masked Karimbah is a two-figure action piece and is also Pope's very first Kid Robot toy -- it'll include a 16 page comic and secret vinyl throw in. This is limited to 300 pieces and are $150 a pop. Pope will be there from 1-4 pm for a special signing. Woo!

July 27:

Tokidoki, an Okee Dorkee fave (if you haven't noticed), is coming out with a 8" pizza lovin'-fang grinnin'- Dunny! From previous Con experience, you better get to the booth early if you want to get your hands on this (or just want Simone to sign some other Tokidoki knick knack). Since his Lesportsac stint, the Tokidoki line has gotten overly popular and spawned many a fan. Last year, the Tokidoki booth was packed, let alone his other signings -- Simone's just driving everyone crazy with his kawaii creations! The KR signing is from 11 am -2 pm -- be there at 8 am.

Start stuffing your piggy banks, folks.

Wall-E

The one thing I regret about last year's Comic Con was not attending the press panel for the new Pixar/Disney flick Wall-E, written and directed by Andrew Stanton -- the mastermind behind Finding Nemo

Wall-E doesn't hit theaters until the 27th, but I've been anticipating it's release since I saw teasers for it a little after Con. I mean, hello. It's about a cute little curious robot that's destined to save the world (or something like that).

Oh yes, and with these kind of movies you know there's going to be TOYS!!! I've already looked into it. Y'know, for my own interest and your's, dear reader. O_o

Lactose Cuties

Mozarella is getting some new reinforcement in her dairy brigade, the Moofia.

Tokidoki's milk infused blind box mini figures expands with three new characters: Riso, Creamina and Fragolina.

These guys can now be found in Moofia milk cartons along with the rest of the gang.

And just when I thought my collection was complete -- these come out! ::cries::

More Tokidoki updates to come . . .

As You Wish

An evil prince, gentle giant, a beautiful princess, pirates, a Spaniard seeking revenge against a six-fingered man and R.O.U.S.'s all seem like an unlikely formula for a fairy tale, but it definitely worked for the cult classic film "The Princess Bride" which celebrates it's 20th anniversary this year. And Neca will be releasing a line of action figures starting with the Dread Pirate Roberts (the alter ego of Westley) sometime in April. Wee! Look out for more to come later on in the year.

Have a GUTSY Singles Awareness Day!

While the coupled lovers will be peddling chocolates and roses on V-day, that doesn't mean the single ones can't get GUTSY and try their HEART-EST (turbopuns!) to join in the love! Heres a few awesome heartsy stuff of that both camps could appreciate today!

Drop the heart-shaped boxes and literally give your valentine your heart!

Guide to Uglyness

2008 is going to be quite an ugly year . . . I mean that in a good and very strangely cute way though.

Uglydolls just launched their brand spankin' new site! Go around Uglytown with Babo and shop, read the blog, participate on the forum, download wallpapers and icons, and [coming soon] play games.

Also out right now are Cinko (who got a bit of a makeover) and Sun-Tan Target. Later on in the year, five new Uglydolls will be added to the family including Puglee, Ugly Ghost, Poe, Babo's Bird, and Plunko. All of these guys come straight from the pages of the Ugly Guides.

"What dat?" you ask?

The Ugly Guides are a set of books (The Ugly Guide to the Uglyverse, Ugly Guide to Thing That Should Go and Things That Should Go But Don't) that'll show you the world of Uglydolls -- where they eat, what hospital they go to when they get boo-boos, where they go to get some R&R, and what each Ugly is all about. Those books will be released on April 22.

For more news on Uglydolls, be sure to check out their newly vamped site and co-creator David Horvath's blog.

Go Speed Racer, go!

For those that aren't in the know, (hey, that's what we're here for!), the 60s cult classic Japanese cartoon Speed Racer has been adapted to a live action flick starring Emile Hirsch, Matthew Fox, Christina Ricci, John Goodman, and Susan Sarandon. Watch for it to hit the big screen on May 9.

With an expected blockbuster, you can certainly bet that there will be toys to go along with it! Mattel has given Barbie and Ken a Trixie and Speed make-over. These guys will be up for grabs sometime in March, but are available for pre-order on Barbie's website and Toys R Us.

Check out the movie's official site to see trailers, videos of press junkets, photos, catch up on any news, download a podcast, and see who else is involved in bringing the world of Speed to life.

Indiana Jones and the Legos of Doom

The colorful plastic world of Lego have released a line inspired by the classic Indiana Jones films. Now you can make your own adventures with Indy in four different sets (ranging in prices from $9.99-$59.99 -- or $114.99 for everything).

I purchased the Motorcycle Chase set because it was in my price range and it comes with not just Indiana Jones and some random German(?) dude, but a tiny Sean Connery as well (ok, Indy's dad, Pro. Henry Jones. Whatever)!

For those who can't wait for the much anticipated flick Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, these little guys should hold you over until May 22.

But remember: Indy hates snakes, Jacque. He hates 'em.
