I finally tried out the The Crystal Ball feature on the Ghost Whisperer website I posted about earlier, and golly darn it...
Think of any two digit number, add the numbers together, then subtract the total from your original number. Then look at the table, look for your number, and think about the symbol that corresponds with your answer...
So i picked 27. so, 2 + 7 = 9. then 27 - 9 = 18
And whatdya know...

okay, can any one tell me how that thing does it? really...there's gotta be some mathematical equation to it....

It's a simple mathematical equation. No matter what number you choose the answer will always be part of the 9 times table (9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72 or 81) even though the symbol is different every time you try it, the symbol next to each of those numbers is always the same.
